Anaesthesia is a state of reduced or absent sensitivity to sensations, most importantly, pain. 

 

Etymology 

Ancient Greek ἀν- (an-) = not 
Ancient Greek αἴσθησις (aísthēsis) = sensation 


There are two major types of anaesthesia: 

• Local anaesthesia 
• General anaesthesia
