Where do I start?

The navigation page, label page and search bar were designed to provide different ways to find the content on this site. You can use them to explore the world of medicine.

 

How hard is it to understand?

These articles are written for an audience with a certain level of biology, chemistry and physics knowledge. If you have studied these subjects to the final stages of secondary school education, it should be possible to understand everything here. This site will not explain the foundations of modern science, for example: DNA, proteins, cells, electromagnetic waves.

I want to make medicine completely accessible to everybody, but this isn't practical at this moment in time. The more accessible the blog becomes, the more terms and concepts require explanation. The articles become longer and less fun for everyone to read. It also becomes less fun to write. This is the reason that medicine has such a huge volume of esoteric terminology.

However, if you truly want to learn medicine it is possible. You might not understand these articles 100% at first but you will understand a lot of it. It becomes easier to read with practice.

 

How much detail will be included?

The clinically insignificant points about histology and physiology will mostly be omitted. This is mainly to keep the focus on a clinical narrative, rather than an exhaustive scientific record. 

Many extremely rare diseases (<1 in 100,000) are mentioned, but there is very little detail. This is because relatively common (1 in 100) diseases are the highest priority. A physician is more likely to benefit from mastering the 1000 most common diseases than 1000 very rare diseases.

 

Can an article be translated to another language?

• Any article can be translated on request.
• Currently available languages include: Dutch, German, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Swedish, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian.
• Eventually Romanian, Polish and Russian will be offered too.
