[Oncology] Pathophysiology

Cancer, or malignant neoplasm, involves uncontrolled growth by a genetically distinct group of cells. These cells cause damage through various mechanisms:

  • Local compression effects and space-occupying lesions
  • High metabolism
  • High vascularity
  • Invasive adaptations
  • Distant metastasis
  • Paraneoplastic syndromes
