Pelvic adhesions

This refers to the presence of disorganised strands of connective tissue throughout the pelvic cavity, which bind tissues and structures together.

Pathophysiology

Adhesions are the result of inflammation, bleeding, and scarring.

Causes

Consequences

  • The adhesions can obstruct the fallopian tubes, causing infertility.
  • Pelvic surgeries become more difficult as the extent of adhesion increases.
