Chest radiograph

Also known as a Chest X-ray or CXR.

Radiation dose: 0.02 mSv.

Examples

Normal chest radiograph

Trachea central.
Lung markings visible throughout entire lung fields.
Normal cardiac silhouette. Heart:thorax diameter <0.5.
No rib fractures. No dislocations.

Pneumothorax

Lateral hypodensity in right lung field.
Lateral hypodensity in right lung field.
Lateral hypodensity in left lung field.

Tension pneumothorax

Trachea deviates to the right.
Left-sided hypodensity.
Mediastinum shifting to the right.

Multiple lung masses

Carinal angle rotated towards left lung.
Multiple lung irregular masses throughout both lung fields.
Finding consistent with bilateral metastases.
