Types 

• Hashimoto's thyroiditis
• Postpartum thyroiditis

 

Diagnosis

• If there is goitre it is identified Hashimoto's thyroiditis
• If there is atrophy, and no goitre, it is called "atrophic thyroiditis"

Sometimes 'autoimmune thyroiditis' refers to Grave's disease, but this is a misnomer.
