Hypersexuality

This refers to pathological levels of libido and sexual behaviour. These patients often behave in a manner which is charismatic, flattering, seductive, flirtatious, or sexually aggressive. 

 

Causes

• Bipolar disorder (usually in hypomania, mania)
• Emotionally unstable (borderline) personality disorder
• Alzheimer's disease
• Frontotemporal dementia
  
• Pick's disease
• Recreational drug use
• Iatrogenic
• Medications for Parkinson's disease

 

Risks

• Vulnerability to exploitation
• Increased chance of committing sexual offences, ranging from harrassment to rape
• Contraction of sexually transmitted infections
• Transmission of sexually transmitted infections
• Damaging interpersonal relationships (inappropriate behaviour, infidelity, etc.)
