Kartagener syndrome

Disease class: Bronchiectasis
Disease class: Dextrocardia
Disease class: genetic diseases, Inborn

This is a disorder of ciliary motility.
During embryonic development, this abnormal ciliary movement causes the organs to develop on the opposite side of the body, like a mirror image.
Throughout life, the abnormal ciliary movement prevents sufficient function of the mucociliary elevator, leading to respiratory system dysfunction.
