Kounis syndrome

This is a type of disease caused by myocardial ischaemia. 

Also known as allergic acute coronary syndrome.

 

Symptoms

• Sudden onset chest pain. 
• This is a 'constrictive' pain. 
• It radiates to the neck or the left arm.

 

Signs

• Diaphoresis (sweating) 
• Pallor

 

Pathophysiology

1. Allergen exposure
2. Type 1 hypersensitivity reaction
3. Coronary artery spasm
4. Myocardial ischaemia
5. Cardiac chest pain

 

Epidemiology

• In 2017, only 175 authentic cases of Kounis syndrome could be found in the medical literature.
