Cardiogenic shock

This is a type of shock caused by dysfunction of the myocardium (the muscle of the heart).

 

Causes

• Myocardial infarction
  
• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Bradycardia
  
• Cardiomyopathy

 

Cardiogenic or obstructive

Often, obstructive shock is considered a type of cardiogenic shock. The causes of obstructive shock include:

• Cardiac tamponade
• Pulmonary embolism
• Tension pneumothorax
• Aortic stenosis
