This is the 17th most common cancer in the UK.

 

Types

• Gastric adenocarcinoma (over 90%)
• Lymphomas (~5%) 
• Carcinoid

 

Risk factors

• Helicobacter pylori infection
• Epstein-Barr virus
• Smoking tobacco
• Alcohol consumption 
• Obesity (through GORD) 
• Pernicious anaemia
