History of medicine: 18th century

  • 1761: First recognition of tobacco as a carcinogen. 
  • 1774: Discovery of oxygen. 
  • 1795: First human to human blood transfusion.
  • 1796: First vaccination. Edward Jenner demonstrated the protective effects of cowpox infection against smallpox.
